Coaches

 Recreational League Rules—3rd Grade Boys and Girls

The objective of this document is to describe how teams are formed, frequency of practices, game rules and player/coach/spectator conduct required for the 3rd grade recreational league.

Team Formation

  • Player talent will be divided evenly among the teams in each league. A draft will be held to ensure player talent is equally divided. Every effort will be made to have at least two athletes from a school on a team. Playing time in each game will be divided evenly among all the players on a team.
  • Each team will have a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 players. At coach’s discretion, an 11th player may be added. Placing more than 11 players on one team requires Board approval.
  • Each team will have at least two coaches.
  • On game day, the team will be divided into two even teams for playing 3 v 3 games.

Practices

  • Each team will have a 1 hour practice each week in a Middleton-Cross Plains School District gym.
  • Practices will be coordinated through the Middleton Basketball Club, not directly with the schools.

Game Rules

  • 3 v 3 games will be played on half court. There will be two 3 v 3 games being played at the same time - one on each end of the court.
  • Warm up is 5 minutes.
  • Games consist of two ten-minute halves with a running clock.
  • Each 3 v 3 team will play two games each Saturday. Games will be played back to back with the total time in the gym being one hour.
  • Half time is 3 minutes.
  • Break between games is 5 minutes.
  • No time outs.
  • Substitutions on any dead ball.
  • Ball must be checked at top of key to put it into play after all dead balls. (No out of bounds plays.)
  • Free backs. No Pressing.
  • No trapping or double teaming. Person to person defense only. NO ZONE allowed.
  • Defense should pick up offense behind the three point line.
  • Call fouls, but no one fouls out. No free throws for shooting fouls.
  • Referee or coach should talk to player who is continuously fouling. (May need to have them sit out for a time.)
  • Technical foul: automatic 2 points and possession of ball.
  • No lane violations.
  • Scoring: we will not keep score at this level.
  • One referee for each 3 v 3 game.
  • No overtime.
  • First possession determined by flip of coin.
  • Each team must provide a volunteer (one for each 3 v 3 game) to assist with the clock.

Conduct

  • All coaches players, and spectators are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct.
  • Coaches are expected to promote good sportsmanship and monitor the conduct of their players.
  • Officials have the authority to assess technical fouls on coaches, players, and spectators.
  • Coaches are expected to assist officials with players and spectators in violation of Code.
  • Any person violating the code of conduct may be ejected from the game and has two minutes to leave the gym or the game will be forfeited to the opposing team.
  • Players and coaches ejected for a violation will be suspended for two games
